Elinor must have a rich and powerful husband, preferably a duke, in order to protect her younger sister from their evil stepfather. Since her first marriage was disastrous, she'd like someone compatible, but doesn't have time to be picky.

James is a duke who thought his first wife loved him, and was devastated to find out on her deathbed that she was forced to marry him because he was a duke. He doesn't think he can find a woman who will love him for himself and not because he's a duke. Except that the second Lady Standon captures his heart from the first time he sees her, when she mistakes him for a solicitor and ends up hiring him to help her find a ducal spouse.

Madcap adventures seem to be a specialty of Ms. Boyle's. While there may be some small license taken as to the feisty behavior of the heroines in this series, I love her style so much I can't deprive this book of so much as a star. The characters are likable and well-fleshed-out and the HEA is superb. More, please!

Mad About the Duke Elizabeth Boyle 9780061783500 Books Reviews

I found this book as delightful as promised by the published reviews. The main characters are fun. The writing leaves you guessing as to when they will put two and two together and come clean about their own feelings/who they really are and why they started this game in the first place.
I have read Ms Boyle before but had missed a lot. After I read this one I am going back to read the entire series. She is very good, and in the class of Layton, Veryan, and Balogh
I read Elizabeth Boyle's series on The Brazen Trilogy and loved it. (must read first, but don't have to) and when I finished I wanted to read more of her work. I found this group and am so happy I did. Bought all of the series and loved every one. Read in order to get the full enjoyment.
Racy and fun, like all Ms. Boyle's romances. It certainly isn't for the faint of heart, in terms of the sexy stuff, but there's always Georgette Heyer and Marion Chesney if you prefer a tamer but equally amusing and well-written Regency romance.
I have enjoyed getting to know these heroes and heroines that while they may have not had good experiences in the past continue to labor on forward and look to the future with spirit and energy that speaks of grit and positive attitudes, while they may not have learned from their previous errors they muddle on with excellent outcomes.
I don't understand all the negative reviews. I've read this book, out of order (so to speak). But, it was enjoyable to me. So much so that I've got the book and I've got it on my . I've read it at least twice. First not in order and then in order. I'm a fan of Ms. Boyle's. The story is plausible and I think she did a great job of doing it. I'm now reading another in the series. And I know I will love that too. All I can say is that Elinor and James' story was wonderful.
A madcap adventure in the style adopted by this author.
It's fun at times, but the repeated mistaken identity theme gets tedious at times. Plus, the compulsive repeating of a a name or word...in this book MAD this & MAD that can drive one to murder!

The guy and girl are interesting, but not anything you can't put down when reading their story.
Sometimes the interactions appear to be 'as if the author' was full of herself.
You never quite buy into this romance as the character's feelings take leaps from one scene to the other.

The sex is OK, not much of it. The ending leaves you feeling as if the main conflict was not a big deal and could be resolved with a few sentences.
I personally would have gotten rid of all the interfering servants! It's a rather lame & tacky last scene.

Just didn't click with me...but, I've read some really bad ones lately...so...
It's an OK read...
